We are very pleased to welcome aboard three new members in The Life Science Cluster and want to extend a big welcome to them all. We are delighted to be joined by Inhibio, Hemispherian and SonoClear, companies that are leading the way in life science innovation.
With these new additions, the cluster is strengthening the engagements with cutting edge companies, and we look forward to collaborate with them all. Below is a bit about the new members, what they are up to and how you can engage with them.
Inhibio – Sustainable biocontrol solutions
Inhibio AS is a company developing environmentally-friendly solutions for combating unwanted biofilm in the aquaculture industry and on materials in marine environments. Biofilms may form on living or non-living surfaces in almost any environment where there is a combination of moisture and nutrients. Once bacteria and algae have formed biofilm, other organisms like seaweed and invertebrate animals can also attach, resulting in biofouling.
Biofilms and biofouling cost marine businesses billions of dollars every year, along with lost industrial productivity, product loss and equipment damage. Inhibio’s solution has a preventive effect on biofilm formation, and is environmentally friendly. The market potential for such a solution is substantial.
Inhibio is working with top-notch partners and specialists that together with the Inhibio team create the cutting edge Inhibio technology team. Futhermore, Inhibio also deliver services within a range of analytical methods. If you want to learn more or are looking to cooperate with Inhibio, you may contact them here: http://www.inhibio.no
SonoClear – Norwegian superfluid helping brain surgeons
SonoClear enhance the quality of ultrasound imaging during operations with their newly developed fluid. The fluid, which resembles brain tissue, makes ultrasound images easier to interpret during an operation. This will make it easier for surgeons to remove brain tumors more accurately.
SonoClear was established in 2016 as a spin off from the Ultrasound and Image-Guided Therapy Centre in Trondheim. The Trondheim area in Central Norway is considered one of the top medical ultrasound clusters in the world, with several prominent institutions and companies.
Surgeons and engineers from St. Olavs Hospital, NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and the research foundation SINTEF has collaborated for more than 20 years to develop new techniques for intraoperative ultrasound guided surgery. Hemispherian Oncology – Innovative therapeutics for aggressive brain tumors
Hemispherian’s mission is to improve the lives of adults and children afflicted with an aggressive brain tumor. They have identified two compounds that specifically and selectively kill glioblastoma multiforme cells – the most prevalent and aggressive malignant tumor of the central nervous system.
Hemispherian’s models show that tumors are regressing to the point where there is no tumor mass identifiable. With the drugs well tolerated in animals, it is expected that they will be well tolerated in humans too. This could provide a solution to one of the highest unmet needs in oncology.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the 17th most common cancer overall, and the second most common cancer in children. The majority of these tumors are resistant to the frontline chemotherapeutic drug. There is no standard second line treatment. Hemispherian is collaborating with neurosurgeons, chemists, and international contract research organizations to bring this solution to the market.
